Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has publicly displayed the front-end radar installation structure of the Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft, providing the clearest view yet of the aircraft’s integration architecture for the Israeli ELM-2052 Active Electronically Scanned Array radar. The exposed forward fuselage reveals the radar mounting assembly, structural supports, avionics compartment, and internal space allocated for cooling, electrical systems, and radio-frequency components. Engineering analysis of the available installation volume suggests the aircraft can accommodate a substantially larger radar aperture than previously estimated, potentially supporting well over one thousand radiating elements depending on the final antenna configuration. The integration demonstrates careful structural design to maintain alignment accuracy while managing vibration, thermal loads, and maintenance accessibility throughout the aircraft’s operational life. The upgraded radar installation forms part of the broader Tejas Mk1A modernization program, which also includes new electronic warfare systems, mission computers, digital avionics, and enhanced cockpit technologies aimed at significantly improving combat performance.
