Astra Microwave Products Limited has achieved a major milestone in India’s defence electronics development by handing over an advanced naval radar system to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for final-stage testing and validation. The announcement was made during the company’s FY26 results conference call held on May 27, 2026. The system, developed over several years, features an Active Antenna Array Unit (AAAU) architecture designed to support both naval and land-based applications. The radar represents an important advancement in India’s efforts to strengthen indigenous maritime surveillance and air defence capabilities. Designed for long-range detection, tracking, and engagement of aerial and surface threats, the system is expected to enhance future Indian Navy warships with improved situational awareness, multi-target tracking capability, and advanced fire-control support. The successful delivery marks the completion of the development phase and initiates comprehensive integration trials, performance assessment, and qualification activities before potential deployment. The project highlights Astra Microwave’s expertise in developing high-power, reliable AESA-based radar technologies suitable for demanding operational environments. As a Development Cum Production Partner (DCPP) for DRDO and the armed forces, Astra Microwave continues to play a key role in advancing India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
