Astra Microwave Products Limited has indicated that discussions with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for large-scale production of the indigenous Uttam AESA radar are approaching completion. Developed by DRDO’s LRDE, the radar represents a major advancement in India’s airborne sensor capabilities, offering improved detection range, electronic counter-countermeasure performance, and multi-target engagement functionality. Planned integration on future Tejas Mk1A aircraft will further increase indigenous content within India’s combat aviation programs. Simultaneously, progress continues on the Virupaksha AESA radar intended for Su-30MKI modernization, reinforcing India’s ambition to develop a comprehensive domestic radar ecosystem for multiple fighter platforms.
