India has announced plans to develop an advanced 4D AESA long-range radar powered by Gallium Nitride semiconductors to enhance strategic surveillance. The proposed radar would offer detection ranges exceeding 450 kilometers and altitude coverage reaching 40 kilometers, allowing broader monitoring of aircraft and missile threats. In addition, the system will include X-band sensors optimized for identifying smaller autonomous targets such as drones, loitering weapons, and swarm systems. Use of GaN components should improve output power and efficiency while reducing maintenance demands. The planned radar highlights India’s increasing focus on domestic sensor technology and future-ready air defense capabilities.
