Britain is shifting its long-term air combat strategy by replacing plans to modernize the Meteor missile with the development of an entirely new air-to-air weapon under the Future Air Superiority Effectors program. The future missile is expected to equip next-generation manned and autonomous aircraft while offering enhanced performance against advanced airborne threats. A joint UK-France study is also underway to evaluate future missile technologies, ensuring the successor builds on the Meteor’s combat-proven capabilities while addressing increasingly sophisticated electronic warfare and long-range engagement requirements.
