The US Navy has awarded Raytheon an $833 million contract to produce additional Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) Block 2 systems for 12 allied nations under the NATO SEASPARROW consortium. The missile provides ship-based defence against aircraft, drones, and supersonic anti-ship threats. Block 2 enhancements include an active radar seeker for independent targeting, improved maneuverability, and software adaptability. With speeds up to Mach 4 and a range of 50–70 km, ESSM remains a critical component of modern naval air defence systems worldwide.
