The next-generation Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile is moving toward a planned 2027 flight test as the US prepares to retire the Minuteman III fleet. Designed by Northrop Grumman, Sentinel includes not only a new missile but also launch facilities, transport equipment, and modern command systems spread across several states. Engineers are using a phased acquisition model to allow design corrections during development. Hardware testing has advanced through propulsion, separation, and guidance trials. With service projected beyond 2075, Sentinel represents one of America’s largest long-term nuclear modernization efforts.
