Canberra has conducted the first live-fire test of an Australian-built GMLRS missile, marking a major step in national missile manufacturing capability. The launch took place at Woomera using an M142 HIMARS operated by the Australian Army’s 14th Regiment. GMLRS is a precision surface-to-surface rocket with ranges above 70 kilometers. Information gathered from the trial will be used for certification and future production planning, including follow-on systems like the Precision Strike Missile. The event highlights Australia’s growing defense industrial base and its push for sovereign long-range strike munitions production in partnership with Lockheed Martin Australia.
