A key milestone has been reached with the delivery of the 500th upgraded naval interceptor missile to the US Navy. Designed to defend ships against both air and surface threats, the system offers greater maneuverability, dual-mode radar guidance, and enhanced flexibility compared to its predecessor. Despite these improvements, the missile retains its compact form, allowing multiple rounds per launcher cell. The program is a collaborative NATO effort, with partner nations sharing in costs and development. Introduced in the early 2000s, the system has since evolved, with the latest variant entering service in 2020 and being deployed on allied vessels across several navies.
