India’s indigenous Pralay tactical missile is becoming a cornerstone of the country’s conventional strike capability. Developed by DRDO and produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), the canisterised quasi-ballistic missile is designed for precision attacks on strategic targets such as command centres, airbases, radar sites, and logistics hubs. Positioned between long-range artillery and strategic ballistic missiles, Pralay provides the Armed Forces with a rapid-response conventional strike option. With growing procurement orders and discussions surrounding a dedicated Rocket Force, production requirements are expected to increase significantly. To meet future demand, India may expand manufacturing beyond BDL by involving private defence companies and MSMEs already supplying key launcher and missile components. This approach would strengthen supply-chain resilience, accelerate deliveries, and further support the nation’s self-reliance objectives in defence manufacturing.
