The Indian Navy is preparing to commission INS Malvan, the second vessel of the indigenous Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft program, further enhancing maritime security across India’s extensive coastline. Specifically engineered for operations in shallow coastal waters where submarine detection is particularly challenging, the vessel integrates advanced indigenous sonar systems, lightweight torpedoes, anti-submarine rocket launchers, and modern combat management technologies. Constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited with a high percentage of indigenous components, the platform reflects India’s expanding domestic naval manufacturing capability under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Together with its sister ships, INS Malvan will strengthen underwater surveillance, protect strategic maritime infrastructure, and improve rapid response against hostile submarine activity throughout the Indian Ocean region.
