Japan’s ShinMaywa US-2 amphibious aircraft continues to attract international interest for its unique ability to conduct operations in challenging maritime conditions. Designed for search-and-rescue, transport, and island-support missions, the aircraft combines advanced flight-control technology, powerful turboprop engines, and exceptional short takeoff and landing performance. The platform can operate from open water where conventional aircraft cannot, making it valuable for maritime security and humanitarian operations. India has considered purchasing the aircraft to strengthen surveillance and rapid-response capabilities across the Indian Ocean region, particularly around the strategically important Andaman and Nicobar Islands, though negotiations remain ongoing.
