Brazil has announced plans to expand its fighter fleet by acquiring 20 additional Gripen aircraft from Swedish manufacturer Saab, supplementing the 36 jets already ordered under a previous agreement. According to Sweden’s defense minister, both countries signed a declaration of intent covering the potential acquisition, with the new aircraft expected to be manufactured in Brazil. The move builds upon the 2014 fighter procurement program, which included technology transfer and local production arrangements. Brazil and Sweden also agreed to establish a center dedicated to Gripen maintenance, modernization, and future systems development.
