South Korea has received US approval for a multibillion-dollar military helicopter procurement package that includes advanced Seahawk naval helicopters and Apache upgrade programs. The MH-60R helicopters will strengthen Seoul’s maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities, while Apache modernization efforts will enhance attack and battlefield support operations. The deal forms part of South Korea’s long-term commitment to expand defense purchases from the United States as regional security tensions persist. Washington has increasingly encouraged allied nations to boost defense spending and invest in advanced military platforms, particularly in regions facing growing strategic competition and security threats from adversarial states such as North Korea.
