DRDO is developing a prototype Atomic Co-Magnetometer Gyroscope as part of India’s efforts to build advanced quantum-based navigation technologies. The system uses atomic interactions and magnetic fields to provide ultra-precise inertial sensing, offering superior accuracy and reliability compared to traditional gyroscopes. Its ability to function independently of satellite navigation makes it particularly valuable for defense applications, including missiles, combat aircraft, unmanned systems, and underwater platforms operating in GPS-denied environments. The project also supports future aerospace and space exploration missions while reinforcing India’s long-term ambitions in quantum sensing and indigenous high-technology development.
