Virginia-based V2X has received an $87 million contract to overhaul SUU-79 pylons used by the US Navy’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft. The pylon is an important underwing component that allows these aircraft to carry and deploy weapons and other stores. V2X has supported Navy F/A-18 systems, including pylons, for decades. Under the new agreement, the company will overhaul and modernize SUU-79 units using advanced repair and lifecycle sustainment methods. The work is intended to extend the service life of the components and maintain the readiness of naval aviation fleets. All work will be performed in Indianapolis, Indiana, with completion expected by January 2030. The contract highlights the importance of sustaining supporting aircraft equipment alongside the aircraft themselves. Reliable pylons are essential for carrying and releasing weapons and other external stores, so their modernization will support continued operation of the Navy’s Super Hornet and Growler fleets.
