The Indian Army has received the 1000th T-90(IM) Bhishma main battle tank manufactured domestically by AVNL, marking a significant achievement in the country’s defense industrial journey. Produced at HVF Avadi, the tank represents the culmination of years of localization efforts that have progressively reduced dependence on imported components and technologies. AVNL has integrated indigenous subsystems covering engines, cooling arrangements, electrical assemblies, and other mission-critical equipment, with localization levels reaching approximately 80 percent. The milestone also reflects the successful development of a domestic supply chain capable of supporting future upgrades, including enhanced powerpacks and indigenous engine technologies. As one of the Army’s principal armored platforms, the T-90 Bhishma remains central to India’s mechanized warfare doctrine. The 1000th delivery underscores the growing capability of Indian industry to manufacture, sustain, and modernize advanced armored systems while ensuring long-term operational support and greater strategic autonomy for the nation’s armored corps.
