India is placing increasing emphasis on indigenous autonomous combat AI as a key pillar of next-generation military aviation, complementing advanced fighter and unmanned aircraft programs. Future AI-enabled systems are expected to support real-time threat analysis, autonomous drone coordination, electronic warfare, target prioritization, and rapid battlefield decision-making, allowing manned and unmanned platforms to operate as an integrated combat ecosystem. Combined with developments in swarm drones, loyal wingman concepts, and network-centric warfare, these capabilities are intended to strengthen India’s operational independence, improve response speed, and prepare the armed forces for increasingly data-driven and AI-enabled conflicts of the future.
