Washington has authorized a potential sale of AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles worth approximately $292 million to South Korea, further strengthening the country’s air combat capabilities. The package includes 70 beyond-visual-range missiles and related support equipment intended for integration with South Korea’s F-35A Lightning II and F-15K fighter aircraft. Featuring fire-and-forget guidance and all-weather operational capability, the AIM-120C-8 can engage enemy aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles at extended ranges. The approval follows earlier US clearance for South Korea’s acquisition of Joint Direct Attack Munitions and underscores continued defense cooperation between the two allies.
