Australia Tests Integrated Air-Defense Prototype During Taipan Strike 26Australia has advanced development of its Medium-Range Ground-Based Air Defense capability after conducting a live-fire test at the Woomera Test Range. The demonstration was held during Exercise Taipan Strike 26 and involved Lockheed Martin working alongside the US Navy to assess the system under operationally representative conditions.During the test, a CEA Technologies radar detected and tracked a simulated airborne threat. The resulting target information was transmitted to an expeditionary variant of the virtualized Aegis Weapon System, demonstrating how the sensor and combat-management elements could work together within an integrated air-defense network.The trial is intended to validate the interaction between the system’s key components as Australia works toward a modern ground-based air-defense capability. Such a system would provide greater protection against airborne threats while supporting distributed operations in contested environments.The involvement of US technologies also highlights the importance of interoperability between Australian and allied air-defense architectures.
