Australia has successfully conducted a live-fire demonstration of its developmental Medium-Range Ground-Based Air Defense prototype, validating the integration of several key components during an operational-style engagement. The test took place during Exercise Taipan Strike 26 at the Woomera Test Range and was led by Lockheed Martin in cooperation with the US Navy. During the demonstration, a radar supplied by CEA Technologies detected and tracked a representative airborne threat before transmitting targeting information to an expeditionary version of the virtualized Aegis Weapon System. The successful test represents an important step in Australia’s effort to develop a mobile ground-based air defense capability capable of responding to emerging aerial threats. The demonstration also highlighted the integration of Australian sensing technology with advanced command-and-control architecture. By testing the system under realistic conditions, Australia can assess how effectively sensors, battle-management functions, and other components operate together. The MRGPAD effort forms part of Canberra’s broader drive to strengthen layered air and missile defense capabilities.
