Romania has signed a contract with Leonardo for the procurement of two additional C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft, expanding its fleet to nine platforms. The acquisition, supported through the European Union’s Security Action for Europe framework, will enhance the country’s capabilities in disaster response, emergency operations, and civil protection missions. Scheduled for delivery in 2029, the aircraft will feature next-generation avionics, upgraded communications systems, and aerodynamic improvements while maintaining compatibility with Romania’s existing Spartan fleet.
