The Peruvian Air Force is expanding its tactical airlift capability with an additional Leonardo C-27J Spartan aircraft, bringing the national fleet total to five units. The new transport aircraft, expected in 2027, will feature the latest “Next Generation” upgrades, including improved avionics and aerodynamic refinements aimed at boosting operational efficiency. Peru has relied heavily on the Spartan platform since 2015 for missions in mountainous and isolated regions where infrastructure is limited, using the aircraft for medical evacuations, cargo transport, disaster relief, and troop movement. Leonardo stated that Peru’s fleet has already completed thousands of operational missions and accumulated nearly 16,000 flight hours. The aircraft’s capability to operate from short and unprepared runways continues to make it highly valuable for challenging environments, while the latest order also represents the 100th C-27J aircraft sold globally.
