The Indian Air Force’s collaboration with GE Aerospace to establish a domestic support facility for F404-IN20 engines marks a significant step toward self-reliance in aerospace sustainment. The facility will enable local repair, overhaul, and maintenance, reducing dependence on overseas logistics. The F404-IN20 engine powers the Tejas fighter aircraft, delivering high performance through advanced turbofan technology and digital engine control systems. With output nearing 20,000 horsepower, the engine enables supersonic speeds and extended operational range. The agreement also includes knowledge transfer, training, and supply chain support, ensuring long-term sustainability. Deliveries of over 100 engines between 2027 and 2032 further reinforce the program’s scale. This initiative aligns with India’s broader defense indigenization goals and enhances operational readiness through faster maintenance cycles.
