The US Department of Defense has awarded Raytheon a major $708.9 million contract to produce the GBU-53B StormBreaker, a next-generation precision-guided munition. The agreement includes production units, test systems, and logistical support for multiple allied nations. Designed for high-precision strikes, the StormBreaker integrates GPS, inertial navigation, and data-link communication to engage both stationary and moving targets. Its compact size allows fighter jets to carry larger payloads while minimizing collateral damage. Currently deployed on the F-15E, the weapon is being integrated into additional platforms like the F-35 and F/A-18, enhancing multi-platform combat versatility.
