Italy’s receipt of its first SAMP/T NG system marks a key milestone in modernizing national and NATO-aligned air defense capabilities. Developed under a joint Franco-Italian program launched in 2021, the system represents a significant evolution over the original SAMP/T. Featuring the Aster B1NT interceptor and the high-power Kronos Grand Mobile radar, the NG variant extends engagement ranges and improves detection against complex and high-speed threats. Deployed alongside the Grifo short-range system and Skynex point-defense assets, SAMP/T NG forms the backbone of a layered defensive network. Its mobility, modularity, and full interoperability enable integration into allied command-and-control structures, supporting both national defense and coalition operations.
