Belgium completed a new rotation of Operation Black Sea Region on 14 November 2025, sending an F-16 to fly in formation with four French Mirage 2000 jets over international airspace above the Black Sea. The mission reinforced Europe’s determination to defend free navigation and air access in an area where these norms are increasingly contested. The aircraft package, featuring interoperable and fully mission-ready systems, showcased strong Franco-Belgian coordination. A Belgian F-16 flying close to the French formation highlighted shared procedures, compatible communications, and coordinated rules of engagement—key elements for safe operations in a tense maritime environment that bridges Europe, the Caucasus, and the Middle East.
