Saab has signed a 1 billion SEK ($104 million) production contract with Sweden’s defense procurement authority to manufacture a new-generation missile launcher system for Gripen fighters. Initially prototyped and validated under a prior agreement, the system offers improved connectivity between the jet and its armaments, ensuring faster communication with air-to-air missiles and countermeasure pods. The launcher, compatible with both Gripen C/D and Gripen E models, provides higher data reliability and mission flexibility. This order initiates full-scale production, reflecting Sweden’s strategy to strengthen its air combat capability through indigenous innovation. Saab emphasized that the system integrates seamlessly with current Gripen avionics and is engineered for multi-mission adaptability. Beyond this development, Sweden is advancing air defense systems such as RBS 70 NG and RBS 98, while also expanding radar coverage with GlobalEye aircraft. Together, these investments represent a cohesive modernization of Swedish defense assets in support of NATO interoperability.
