The U.S. Army has ordered nine CH-47F Block II Chinook helicopters from Boeing for $461 million to modernize its heavy-lift fleet. The order covers production Lots 4 and 5, bringing the Block II fleet to 18, with potential for Lot 6. Six Block II aircraft are in testing. Upgrades include reinforced structures, redesigned fuel systems, and improved engines, boosting takeoff weight by 4,000 pounds and extending range. Each helicopter carries up to 55 troops or 24,000 pounds of cargo and is powered by twin 4,700-hp engines. Boeing has also received over 50 MH-47G orders for U.S. Special Operations Command.
