Thailand has opted for Saab’s Gripen E/F fighters in a $500M contract, signaling a clear preference for the Swedish jet over competing offers like the F-16. The order includes 3 Gripen E and 1 Gripen F trainer, supported with logistics, equipment, and training packages, with deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2030. The decision follows deadly border clashes with Cambodia, accelerating Bangkok’s push for modernized deterrence capabilities. Already a Gripen operator with 11 C/D models in service, the Royal Thai Air Force will benefit from fleet commonality, while the advanced avionics, sensors, and networking of the E/F upgrade mark a transformative leap in combat capability.
