Russia’s MiG-35 fighter represents an advanced evolution of the MiG-29 family, combining upgraded avionics, enhanced sensors, and multirole combat capability into a relatively affordable fourth-generation-plus platform. Developed by Mikoyan under the United Aircraft Corporation, the aircraft was designed to provide a flexible and export-friendly alternative to more expensive fifth-generation stealth fighters. Powered by upgraded RD-33 engines with improved efficiency and reduced smoke emissions, the MiG-35 can also feature thrust-vectoring nozzles for improved maneuverability in close combat. The aircraft is equipped with the Zhuk-AE radar capable of tracking up to 30 air targets simultaneously while engaging multiple threats at long range. Advanced electro-optical targeting systems further enhance day-and-night combat capability. The fighter supports a broad range of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons, enabling it to conduct air superiority, strike, and reconnaissance missions within a single sortie. Despite lacking stealth characteristics comparable to fifth-generation fighters, the MiG-35 remains attractive for nations seeking a cost-effective multirole platform with modern sensors and strong combat flexibility.
