India and Brazil are examining a unique defence exchange model that would see C-390M transport aircraft supplied to India in return for Tejas Mk1A fighters and Akash missile systems exported to Brazil. The initiative supports India’s broader military modernization and defence export strategy while offering Brazil an opportunity to replace its ageing fighter fleet and enhance its air defence capabilities. The proposed arrangement would rely on reciprocal procurement between domestic manufacturers, creating mutual industrial benefits. However, the deal’s success will depend on factors such as Tejas engine supply, lifecycle support commitments, technology transfer requirements, and India’s assessment of the C-390M’s operational suitability.
