Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has received a 1-billion-krona (about $99 million) order from Norway’s Defence Materiel Agency to strengthen the NASAMS ground-based air-defense architecture. The new contract provides modernized command posts, mobile communication hubs, and advanced radios to elevate the network’s speed and resilience. The hardware will be integrated into four NASAMS batteries introduced in 2024 as part of Norway’s modernization plan. Replacing the existing VHF radio system, Kongsberg’s new THOR Combat Net Radio delivers higher capacity, encrypted data links, and adaptive networking for rapid coordination between sensors and launchers. The enhanced C2 network will improve reaction time, support distributed operations, and reduce electromagnetic vulnerability. Officials said the effort ensures compatibility with NATO air-defense assets and enhances Norway’s ability to respond to aerial threats across extended territory. Kongsberg emphasized that these upgrades will sustain NASAMS as the core of Norway’s national air-defense umbrella for decades. NASAMS is fielded by more than a dozen nations, and Norway’s new investment underscores its confidence in indigenous technology and long-term industrial participation. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026, positioning Kongsberg to further export advanced C2 and radio solutions to other NASAMS operators worldwide.
