Estonia has finalized a defense agreement with South Korea to procure the K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), boosting its deep-strike and deterrence capabilities.
Manufactured by Hanwha Aerospace, the Chunmoo will serve as a complement to Estonia’s six HIMARS launchers acquired from the United States in 2022 and formally received in January 2025. The NATO ally continues to expand its rocket artillery fleet with additional HIMARS orders.
With this acquisition, Estonia becomes the second European nation after Poland to operate the Chunmoo system.
Poland procured more than 200 Chunmoo MLRS in 2022 to operate alongside its HIMARS batteries, followed by an additional 72 units in 2024. Its first K239 launcher, designated “Homar-K,” entered service in 2023.
In April 2025, WB Electronics of Poland signed an agreement with Hanwha Aerospace to locally produce Chunmoo missiles, with manufacturing expected to begin within three years and include export opportunities across Europe.
Later in September, Sweden’s Saab entered a partnership with Hanwha to evaluate integration of the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb with the Chunmoo platform.
