Madrid’s decision to procure 30 Turkish-built Hürjet trainers signals a structural transformation of Spain’s combat aviation training system. With Airbus Defence and Space managing integration and adaptation, the program emphasizes an ecosystem approach, combining aircraft, simulators, and digital training tools. The Hürjet’s supersonic performance and open-architecture design allow it to replicate modern fighter characteristics, providing pilots with a seamless transition to operational jets. Aircraft deliveries will begin after Spanish certification, followed by phased conversion work through the early 2030s. By pairing the Hürjet with advanced ground-based simulation, Spain aims to enhance training realism, reduce costs, and modernize pilot preparation for future air combat environments.
