Boeing’s upgraded RVS 2.0 for the KC-46 tanker has taken its first flight, marking a major step toward Air Force qualification. The enhanced system uses 4K cameras, stereoscopic imaging, and panoramic sensors to boost accuracy and clarity for aerial refueling. More testing and refueling trials will follow. Previous delays tied to design issues pushed fielding beyond the initial 2023 target. The redesign effort stems from a 2019 agreement between Boeing and the Air Force after significant flaws surfaced in the original RVS. With this milestone, Boeing moves closer to resolving long-standing issues while advancing other modernization programs, including MQ-25 integration efforts, F-15EX upgrades, and digital twin-based fleet readiness optimization.
