Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) has secured reservations for three Airlander 10 hybrid airships — the first order to adapt the platform for defense operations.
An unnamed defense contractor placed the order, aiming to leverage the airship’s endurance and lift for surveillance and transport missions.
The Airlander 10 can remain aloft for up to five days without refueling and can operate from nearly any surface, including grass, sand, or water.
Initially built for civilian certification, its modular design allows quick reconfiguration for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), logistics, or even drone launch operations.
Each craft can carry payloads exceeding three tonnes, accommodating advanced sensors and radar for extended monitoring.
The low noise and thermal output make it difficult to detect, while its efficient fuel consumption promises lower operating costs.
HAV expects growing military interest as nations pursue cost-effective, long-endurance alternatives to satellites and manned aircraft.
