Seeking to modernize its artillery forces, the US Army’s SPH-M competition has attracted a joint bid from Anduril Industries and Elbit Systems of America. Their solution combines the combat-proven SIGMA self-propelled howitzer with advanced autonomy, edge computing, and command-and-control technologies developed by Anduril. The partnership aims to deliver a survivable and highly mobile artillery platform capable of meeting future operational requirements through 2040 and beyond. The program represents the Army’s latest effort to field a next-generation self-propelled howitzer following the cancellation of the Extended Range Cannon Artillery project in 2024.
