Vietnam is completing a deal with India to purchase $700 million worth of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
In line with the country’s recent drive toward a more modern defense force, the missiles will be used by Hanoi’s land-based and air-launched systems that are compatible with the Vietnam People’s Air Force’s Su-30 jets.
According to the Indian Defense Research Wing, the agreement is expected to be completed in the next several weeks.
This occurs after accounts that Hanoi was considering buying a $625 million package in 2023 that would include three to five batteries.
The missiles will be the second in Asia, after the Philippines’ $362 million deal in 2021 for three batteries of a shore-based version.
