India has reportedly achieved a significant milestone in indigenous missile development with the successful maiden test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Medium Range (NASM-MR). The trial, conducted using a ground-based booster launch configuration, validated critical flight and guidance parameters of the new maritime strike weapon. Designed as an all-weather, over-the-horizon anti-ship missile, NASM-MR combines a sea-skimming flight profile, high-subsonic speed, and dual-mode seeker technology to engage hostile naval targets with greater accuracy and resistance to electronic warfare measures. Powered by an indigenous small gas-turbine engine and carrying a substantial warhead, the missile is expected to provide the Indian armed forces with a versatile medium-range maritime strike capability while advancing self-reliance in propulsion and precision-guided weapon technologies.
