The Royal Danish Air Force has concluded operations of the F-16 after 46 years, shifting entirely toward the F-35A as its frontline combat aircraft. The transition reflects Denmark’s response to evolving security challenges, including heightened activity around Greenland and drone incursions into national airspace. While the F-16 fleet has been redistributed to support allied forces, Denmark’s growing F-35 inventory is steadily assuming air defense duties. Recent training missions, including long-range flights and aerial refueling in Arctic conditions, highlight the aircraft’s expanding operational role. The full fleet is expected to deliver a step change in situational awareness and multi-domain integration.
