Taipei has announced a bold plan to deploy over 1,300 Kuai Chi unmanned surface vessels within five years, reflecting its strategy to bolster asymmetric maritime capabilities. The USVs will be distributed among naval and ground commands, including the Navy’s Coastal Combat units and the Army’s Special Operations forces. Managed by the Ministry of National Defense, the procurement emphasizes local production and scalability, making it harder for adversaries to anticipate deployment patterns. With swarm operations and distributed lethality, the Kuai Chi fleet could provide Taiwan with a powerful tool to delay or disrupt amphibious invasions, strengthening its resilience in contested waters.
