The US Department of Defense’s Office of Strategic Capital has issued a conditional loan commitment of up to $820 million to Performance Drone Works (PDW). The financing is intended to expand domestic manufacturing of critical components for unmanned aerial systems.

When combined with private investment, the funding will support higher production of drone propulsion systems, power-control equipment, and vision technologies. The initiative is designed to strengthen domestic capacity for components that are important to UAS development.

PDW will build on its existing 90,000-square-foot, or 8,361-square-meter, facility in Huntsville, Alabama. The expansion is expected to create additional manufacturing capacity for PDW and its local industrial partners.

The investment reflects an effort to increase domestic production capabilities for key unmanned-system technologies. By expanding the Huntsville operation and working with industry partners, PDW is positioned to increase manufacturing output across several important UAS component categories.
