South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace and Estonia’s Milrem Robotics have signed a cooperation agreement to pursue Romania’s future unmanned ground vehicle requirements through a locally integrated industrial partnership. Signed during the BSDA 2026 exhibition in Bucharest, the arrangement combines Hanwha’s wheeled and tracked unmanned systems with Milrem’s combat-proven THeMIS platform to deliver a flexible robotic battlefield solution. Hanwha’s offering includes the Arion-SMET autonomous logistics vehicle and the GRUNT 6×6 unmanned platform capable of carrying modular mission payloads across extended distances, while Milrem contributes the hybrid-powered THeMIS Cargo vehicle already used in multiple military programs. Prior to the event, the companies demonstrated manned-unmanned teaming operations near Bucharest using the TIGON armored vehicle in combination with robotic systems for surveillance, casualty evacuation, resupply, and drone-supported battlefield awareness under simulated electronic warfare conditions. The collaboration supports Romania’s preference for local defense production while aligning with Hanwha’s wider push to expand its European defense footprint.
