AeroVironment (AV) has introduced the Vapor Compact Long Endurance (CLE), the newest member of its expanding vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial systems lineup. The Vapor CLE is a Group 2 all-electric drone featuring a modular open systems architecture designed for multi-mission flexibility. It supports over 26 different payloads, including advanced optical sensors, electronic warfare equipment, and communication relay tools. Weighing approximately 35 pounds with a compact foldable design, the system offers a flight endurance of up to two hours—double the typical times for similar drones. Importantly, it can be fitted with mortar rounds, grenades, and other guided munitions to provide flexible strike options. The drone features NVIDIA ORIN onboard AI computing and AV’s autonomous command software, enhancing real-time target recognition and autonomous mission execution at ranges exceeding 10 kilometers. The Vapor CLE was developed in response to operator feedback demanding enhanced endurance, payload capacity, and ruggedness for operational reliability.
