Taiwan will classify small drones as “consumables” to simplify acquisition and improve access for its military. Modeled on US policy, the change allows commanders to procure drones directly, treating them like ammunition. With drones hitting targets only 10% of the time, volume deployment is key, experts note. The move supports cooperation between military and private drone makers. Taiwan also plans to acquire nearly 49,000 drones by 2027 while integrating drone use into soldier training, part of efforts to counter potential Chinese aggression.
