The Netherlands has moved closer to joining OCCAR, the European defense procurement organization that manages multinational military acquisition programs across Europe. A bill submitted to the Dutch parliament would make the Netherlands the seventh OCCAR member alongside Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Dutch officials say membership would strengthen cooperation on shared procurement projects, improve interoperability among European armed forces, and streamline participation in large multinational defense programs. OCCAR currently oversees major initiatives involving transport aircraft, electronic warfare, and hypersonic defense technologies, making it an increasingly important platform for Europe’s evolving defense industrial cooperation.
