Italy is poised to bolster its amphibious force structure after receiving US approval for the acquisition of seven Assault Amphibious Vehicles valued at $30.6 million. The proposed package includes command and recovery variants, support equipment, technical resources, and sustainment services intended to improve operational readiness. Although retired from US Marine Corps frontline service, the AAV remains a versatile platform capable of transporting troops directly from ship to shore. Powered by high-performance diesel engines and protected by aluminum armor, the tracked vehicle offers mobility across varied terrain and maritime environments. Washington stated that the sale will strengthen Italy’s ability to address regional security challenges while supporting NATO interoperability requirements.
