The British government is expected to finalize a decade-long procurement deal with Heckler & Koch for the supply and support of L7A2 General Purpose Machine Guns used across the UK Armed Forces. Worth around £70 million ($94 million), the contract will ensure continued availability of the upgraded machine gun system through 2036. H&K was selected without competition because it possesses the proprietary technical data and expertise required to manufacture and support the modified L7A2 variant. Based on the FN MAG platform, the weapon delivers reliable 7.62mm firepower in multiple operational roles, ranging from tripod-mounted sustained-fire missions to mobile infantry and vehicle-based applications, making it a key component of British military fire support capabilities.
