Canada has signed a government-to-government agreement with the United States to acquire 26 M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers under a deal valued at 2.6 billion Canadian dollars ($1.88 billion). The package includes launchers, munitions, spare parts, training, and long-term support services, with deliveries expected to commence in 2029. Procured under Canada’s Long-Range Precision Strike project, the HIMARS system will significantly enhance the Canadian Army’s ability to engage targets at ranges exceeding 300 kilometers. The acquisition also provides flexibility to integrate future land-based anti-ship missile capabilities, strengthening coastal and Arctic defense operations.
